This page describes what the public Sayer website collects. It is not a certification of compliance with any particular privacy law.

Reading the public site

You do not need an account to read published articles. The public archive does not require a name, email address, or password.

When you open a published article, the site may record a first-party page view so the desk can see which stories are being read. That record includes the article and a time. It does not include a name, email address, or advertising identifier. Sayer does not sell it.

The page-view request is sent to Sayer’s own servers. The site may keep a small value in your browser so the same article is not counted twice in one visit. That value is not used for advertising.

Sayer Weekly

If you subscribe to the weekly email on this site, Sayer stores the address you entered, whether it has been confirmed, and whether it has been unsubscribed. A confirmation email is sent before you are added to the send list. You can unsubscribe from any weekly message. Sayer does not sell this list.

The weekly email is sent through a hosted email provider. That provider processes the address in order to deliver the message. See Sayer Weekly.

What this site does not use

The public site does not load advertising pixels or third-party audience-measurement tools. There is no public contact form and no public account registration.

Staff accounts

People invited to the newsroom sign in on a separate staff surface. That sign-in may set a session cookie needed to keep the account signed in. Staff cookies are not required to read the public archive.

Messages you send

If you write to the desk, Sayer uses the email address and contents of that message to respond. Those messages are correspondence, not an account on this site.

Infrastructure

Sayer stores publication data and serves this site through hosted infrastructure providers. Those providers may keep ordinary operational logs, such as IP address, browser type, and requested URL, as part of running the service. Those logs are not used on this site to build advertising profiles.
